1. Trim your guest list! You haven't interacted with a friend in over a year now? Just sending them an announcement will suffice. People understand and remember too that the guest is expected to spend at least $50 on a gift so that takes the burden off of them. Just keep your list to immediate family and friends. Everyone will understand.
2. Pick a day other than a Saturday. If you want to negotiate big discounts, choosing an evening during the week will get you more bang for your buck. If you must have a Saturday, pick an off season such as August or January!
3. Opt for a simplier buffet dinner. Roast beef is much cheaper than prime rib. Chicken fetuccini is less expensive than Parmesan Chicken. Get the point here? Negotiate a less expensive menu with your venue.
4. Choose a simple 2-tier cake and one sheet cake.
